New Perspectives from the Military

You may have heard that the US of A are close to bankruptcy. There’s a fight between Democrats and Republicans about how to spend money on what. The USA have the world’s largest (in terms of being expensive) military. The armed forces are America’s Holy Cow. War distracts from the problems at home. So you might think that the Joint Chiefs of Staff are happy about their importance. Well, they’re not, and this is very remarkable. Look at this quote:

We have to recognize that fixing America’s fiscal problems – paring back the budget busters like entitlements and also defense spending – making the economy competitive, dealing with immigration and outlining a serious plan for energy use are the best strategies to stay a superpower, not going around killing a few tribal leaders in the remote valleys and hills of Afghanistan.

It is straight from an article describing a publication that was sanctioned by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The authors are Captain Wayne Porter of the U.S. Navy and Colonel Mark Mykleby of the U.S. Marine Corps. It’s reassuring to see some sign of sanity despite the lunatic ramblings of politicians.
